Yearmake is designed to produce a finished book—not an open-ended service.
Our refund policy reflects the real work involved while remaining fair and clear.
How Story of You works.
Story of You is a one-time payment. It covers ten weeks of prompts — three a week, thirty total — plus a four-week grace period, for a total window of fourteen weeks and up to forty-two prompts. We need responses to at least twenty prompts to build your book.
Cancellations & refunds.
Refunds within the first three weeks.
If the experience isn't right for you in the first three weeks from your first prompt, we'll refund you in full. Email hello@yearmake.com and we'll process the refund within two business days. No questions, no forms.
After three weeks.
Past the three-week window, we're no longer able to offer full refunds. By that point, we've sent a significant portion of your prompts and the editorial process is well underway. But if something changes — life happens, timing shifts, you hit a stretch where you can't respond — we'll work with you. Two options:
Pause and restart later.
You can pause your project at any point before content submission. While paused, no new prompts will be sent. Your responses and photos stay saved. You can restart within six months of your original start date, and your prompt schedule will resume from where you paused.
This is the right option if you want to finish the book eventually but need more space to reflect and respond right now.
Convert your book into a gift.
If you'd rather pass the experience along, you can convert your Story of You into a gift for another family. The project is reassigned, prompts reset, and the new recipient starts fresh. Any responses you've already submitted won't carry over.
Before we design or print.
When your prompts are complete and your content is ready, we'll show you everything going into your book — your shaped responses, your photo selections, page by page — before we design anything. If it feels right, we build the book. If something's off, one note from you is enough; we'll take another pass. You approve before we print.
If there's a defect.
If your finished book arrives with a printing defect, email us at help@yearmake.com and we'll send a replacement at no cost.
If your project doesn't complete.
If you haven't submitted at least twenty prompt responses by the end of the fourteen-week window, your project will be archived automatically. We hold your content for six months after archiving.
If that happens, you have a few options:
Restart for free within six months. If you want to resume the experience, let us know anytime in the six months after archiving. We'll reactivate your project with additional prompts and access to all your prior responses. Once you reach twenty responses, your book proceeds.
Convert to a digital archive. We'll compile everything you submitted into a digital keepsake. It's a different outcome than a printed book — not a downgrade — for families who want to preserve what they recorded without extending the experience.
Leave it archived. No further action. We'll hold your content for six months in case you want to revisit. After that, it's deleted.
We'll reach out personally if you reach this point and help you decide what makes sense.
What we won't do.
We won't hide refund terms in small print. We won't make cancellation difficult. We won't delay or ignore refund requests. If something goes wrong and we can help, we will.
